Seriously “ridiculous”: An interview with Tim Washer

September 24, 2014kranzcomblog, content marketing

Tim Washer of Ridiculous Media

A couple of weeks ago, I had the honor of introducing Tim Washer for his Content Marketing World presentation, “Creating a Seamless Video Strategy on a Budget.” The title suggests something dry, but the presentation was anything but. It wasn’t just that Tim was hilariously funny (he’s a comedy veteran of SNL, Conan O’Brien, the Onion Sports Network, John Oliver and more), he was also provocatively contrarian.

Oh sure, everyone says “take risks.” Tim went further, insisting that fear isn’t just something we shouldn’t avoid, it’s the very thing we need to follow. In his world, “mistakes” are gifts, and the ideas that many people find uncomfortable are the very ones most likely to have real value.

I knew right away that if there was anyone I needed to interview for an ebook on building content creation teams, Tim HAD to be among them. Fortunately, he was willing to play along. Tim’s an independent producer for his own company, Ridiculous Media, and has lots of experience developing videos for leading brands like IBM and Cisco.

Here’s a preview of his observations:

  • It’s not enough to “think out of the box” — sometimes, you actually have to work outside your organization in order to give it the best work. In the ebook, Tim will tell us how.
  • Committees are the wet blankets on the fire of creativity. Tim has great ideas for managing committees to minimize their damage.
  • Bonus secret: How to sneak the best outside talent onto your approved vendor list.

Stay tuned for the upcoming ebook. In the meantime, check out Tim’s blog here.
